FUSED GLASS SPINE
Theme: Small Public Space with Glass In all cities and human societies, small public spaces and semi-public spaces exist in various forms. Although they are spread out almost randomly with different functions and forms, a discreet network is established to assist in facilitating the society to function. Space we occupy to fulfill needs in our daily lives such as to rest, to meet up with people, to make telephone calls, to wait for buses or taxis, or to read information boards appear merely as part of an urban scenery for those who have no such needs. However, for those who utilize these small public spaces, they become a device that supports one's lifestyle in a multitude of ways.

If small public spaces with glass are created as a spatial network, can they be employed in an effective manner not only for the society to function, but also for enhancing the appearance of our urban environment so that the place we reside in can continue to be comfortable? The small public spaces, which form part of a network, may share a common function or differ in their functions. Or, perhaps, these small spaces may not have any function, but being part of a network itself adds charm to our surroundings and allows us to rediscover the human environment. Take into consideration problems our society currently faces, such as the form of long-term dwelling, the handling of the dilapidation of the urban society, the elderly, the physically handicapped, and the children, so that these spaces can support our society. Only because these spaces are small, spread out, and are part of a network are they capable of filling in the gaps of urban spaces and reinforcing the appeal of living in cities. In the preparation of a proposal, try to study an idea from various perspectives, to consider thoroughly and to develop fully an idea so that an evolved expression can be discovered, i.e. something more than simple hand sketches or CAD drawings. Scrupulous study and examination bring out, in particular, the brilliance of an idea. We are looking forward to receiving proposals for "Small Public Space with Glass" that are appropriate for the coming human-oriented society.
