Entry in an international 'blue- sky' design competition to introduce glass into the urban fabric. |
||
Throughout the developed world a complex network of intersections, subways & pedestrian walkways pepper the urban landscape with uncomfortable voids and spaces. Poor lighting and surveillance heighten a sensation of isolation and vulnerability. Fused glass is used to form a directional spine, describing patterns of pedestrian movement whilst filtering images, light and sound into normally dark recesses. The use of live links across the City is to animate such spaces, drawing in much of the vitality associated with the city street. A composite fabric of steel, recycled fused glass & fibre optic cable is woven across the City's pedestrian infrastructure. |
